Moriah DeMartino, a 22-year-old political science major was denied permission by Hagerstown Community College (HCC) to start a club that promotes capitalism and personal responsibility. Now, she is fighting back.
The student has filed a lawsuit after the Maryland college refused to allow her to start a college chapter of Turning Point USA.
Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, stated that this is “censorship, pure and simple.”
“Turning Point USA is a non-partisan group that educates students on fiscal responsibility. We are not partisan and our mission cannot be combined with other political groups,” Kirk exclaimed. “Hagerstown Community College is playing political games and we have had enough.”
The college has an LGBT club, and a chapter of the National Organization for Women.
This is not going to go over well for the college, because in several cases, middle schools and high schools have tried to prevent sex clubs, or Gay-Straight Alliances, from forming at their educational felicities. It resulted in lawsuits where the clubs won.
This same standard applies to schools and colleges preventing conservatives, capitalists and Christians from forming clubs.
Have fun getting sued, HCC.
